This is a set of documents, letters or autobiographies of family members, with links to other web-sites where discovered. Any family members with other documents they’d like to contribute, please let me know – either email me a copy, or give me a web-site to link to.  The order is “oldest generation first”.

 

Generation X-5

Ø  Charles Garland (England, 1784-1846) Article about his role in Methodism, also mentions his wife and children.

 

Generation X-4

Ø  John Birch and Ellen Garland (England, 1823-1914) set of documents. Ellen was a daughter of Charles Garland.

Ø  Thomas Charles Garland (England, 1821-1913) – wrote “Leaves from my Log” and “More Leaves from my Log”, describing Christian work in the Port of London, published by T Woolmer, London 1882.

Ø  Maria Swan (England, d.1879). Correspondence with her Mother, also named Maria Swan, on her conversion.

 

Generation X-3

Ø  Thomas Walter Moores (England –> Canada, 1856-1943) son-in-law to JB⪚ his autobiography is in 3 parts – part 1 describes life in England and emigration; part 2 describes life in Canada (part 3 is “in Canada”, but who now has it now? Aunt Olive used to have one of either 2 or 3). See also his recipe for a Scripture cake dated 1900.

Ø  Lillian Garland Birch – (England –> Canada, 1860-1940), his wife, daughter to JB&EG. Extract from her diary covering emigration to Canada

Ø  Ernest Albert Birch – (England, 1858-1931) her brother; several documents, including a Diary extract describing the wedding day of TW and LG Moores, and some poems written for and about his parents (John and Ellen Birch).

 

Generation X-2

Ø  Olive O Lockhart  (Canada, 1891-1972) - daughter of T W Moores – her autobiography, “From Dust to Gold”, plus a summary written for the history of Invermay. Also a partial index of her poetry.

Ø  E Nora Churchill  (Canada, 1900-1992) - daughter of T W Moores – one of her poems.

Ø  Eustace Moores (Canada) – final letter to his parents, from the World War 1 front-line.

Ø  Harry J Harris (England) – his Indenture as an Apprentice printer (and image); a poem to his sweetheart, Mabel Moores; letter to TW & LG Moores on the birth of his son.

Ø  Henry James Garland (England, 1888-1951) - wrote “Henry Francis Lyte and the story of ‘Abide with me’ ” published by Torch Publishing, Manchester England. Biographical extract from the cover included here.

Ø  William Edwin Garman (England, 1875-1958) – published “Hymns and Carols” (Epworth Press, London). Married the granddaughter of John and Ellen Birch.

Ø  E. Margery Hicks  (England, 1902-1979) - grand-daughter of JB&E Garland – the story of her childhood “Young, Yesterday” copyright 1969, published by Wordens of Cornwall Ltd, Penzance (qv).

Ø  James Frederick Burrows (England, 1870-1964) – a reproduction of a book of photos of Ely, that he took and published.

Ø  Some old postcards sent from Harry and Mabel Harris to her mother and her sister Olive O Moores.

 

Generation X-1

Ø  Walter B Harris  – (England, 1910-2000) grandson of T W Moores – several documents are on-line.

Ø  Irene A LaFlamme nee Moores – a tribute by her daughter Lorraine.
