What was Jesus’
message about God?
·
God
is perfect … everything about Him and everything He thinks and does.
·
God
is love … not simply “full of love”, but the very
definition of what love is. He is also a God of justice. Most people are happy
to think of God as a God of love, but when it comes to a God of justice, that’s
OK only if it is applied to other people. But for God to be a God of love He
has to be a God of justice too.
·
God
wants to have a loving and trusting relationship with us; Jesus taught us to
think of God as a Loving Father.
·
God
has an abhorrence of sin (any deviation from His perfect will for us … good
things not done, or bad things done); so while God wants to have everyone enter
His heavenly home, his love means that he cannot allow sin to get in.
·
To
solve that dilemma, God has been trying to reach human beings since the
beginning; In the Old Testament He used individuals, chosen to be His role
models, and later used the prophets to speak His message. But the Jewish people
kept falling away from God; a new approach was called for.
·
So
God sent Jesus, His only Son – Jesus could be a mediator between man and God,
because he was both. And Jesus perfectly knew the Father’s heart and will.
·
And
when Jesus returned to His Father, the responsibility for that message was
passed to the disciples, and through them to the
church.
Is such a message
reasonable?
·
To
come.
