When
we talk to family and friends, we don’t often say much about our faith … which
doesn’t mean it’s not important, but rather that there’s usually so much to
talk about that “serious chats” don’t get the time they deserve. This part of
our website is an attempt to remedy that omission!
WHAT we believe … is the
“traditional” Christian faith, based on a personal knowledge of our Lord Jesus
Christ. Very briefly put, no-one has the remotest chance of being “right” with
God, so God took the initiative and sent Jesus to earth; He died unjustly, and
in doing so made it possible for anyone who believes in and follows Him to be
forgiven – totally and utterly made right with God. Click for a summary
of the key points of the Christian Faith.
WHY we believe it … is a
combination of a number of reasons
v Upbringing – exposed us
to it! But we both had to come to our
own conclusion that it was “true”[1],
and that we were committing ourselves to Jesus.
v Experience – having made
that commitment, during our lives we’ve had ample confirmation. Click for a
very condensed digest.
v Logic (this is Bernard’s
bit) – being a mathematician turned software engineer,
Bernard could not commit to anything that didn’t make a significant degree of
sense. Christianity does! Click for Bernard’s conviction that Christianity
makes “perfect sense”.
v Faith – in the end,
logic and personal experience can’t QUITE “prove” our faith. In the end, we
trust in a person – the living Lord Jesus – rather than creeds or doctrine.

[1] Truth … seems to be a very subjective thing these days. Here, by “true”, we mean absolutely and universally true … let no one say “it may be true for you but not for me”; that is relative truth, not absolute truth.
