What we believe …

We believe in the Holy Spirit,

The way Jesus now interacts with his followers, individually and together

God is one God, three persons – and the Holy Spirit is the third person. He (interestingly, the Holy Spirit is female in the Old Testament and male in the New) is equal to the Father and Son, and serves both. He shares all the attributes of the Father and Son – eternal, omnipotent and so on – but with a special mission to be the presence of Jesus among His followers and in the world.

In the Old Testament He is active in creation, and comes to give power to key individuals at certain times (Moses, Elijah and so on).

In the New Testament He is “poured out” on all believers, with the tasks of

·         Convicting humans of their sin, and leading them through the conversion process,

·         Giving assurance to believers, and

·         Equipping believers with the power to serve Jesus – to speak, to know, and to do what He would want said, thought and done,

at all times in such a way as to give glory and praise to Jesus.

Why is this important?

·         Believers are not intended to be “mere pew-fodder”, but to allow the Holy Spirit to act through them.

·         The Holy Spirit is also our guard against falsehoods, false ideas and deceitful thinking.
