Canadian Holiday
- Day 12 : Friday 19th September
The plan for today was to make a late-ish start (morning after a busy day before) and have a family get-together at Lorraine’s house in the afternoon. So we did that! Late on in the morning, Katie and I were given instructions on how to find Margaret Platt’s house, and we set off in our rental sports car to meet her and bring her to the “do”. We duly found her house, and had some time with her there chatting, and re-living memories of the times we met her and Ron in England, and how the two of them had looked after my parents just 25 years earlier when they had had their “Grand Canadian Tour”.
Then came the journey back to Lorraine’s – I think it was perhaps the first time for a year or two that Margaret had been in a sports car! At the family gathering, Lorraine’s sister Aline was there – we had feared that she would be away during our visit, but arrangements had changed; Aline works as a sort of adviser among the “indigenous peoples” in the Northwest Territories (they are not to be referred to as Canadian Indians etc. etc. these days), and is in fact an honorary Chief; quite an honour. So there was a bit of a party, as the photos suggest.
