Epilogue
Walter Brittan Harris died
very suddenly, having been free of illness, on Sunday morning, 6th February
2000. At the time he was just over two months away from his 90th birthday,
which he intended to spend quietly with his family, “If I’m spared”. This was his “last photo”, taken by Adrian
in January 2000.

The following lines are taken
from a print that he had above his bed.
“Bring us, O Lord God, at our
last awakening, into the house and gate of heaven,
to enter into that gate, and
dwell in that house where there shall be
no darkness or dazzling, but one equal light;
no noise nor silence, but one equal music;
no fears nor hopes, but one equal possession;
no ends nor beginnings, but one equal eternity
in the habitation of Thy glory
and dominion, world without end.”
- Dean John Donne
Following the funeral Service at Woodley Baptist Church, cremation was
at Reading Crematorium. Rosalie,
Marguerite, Bernard and Katie took his ashes to Amersham crematorium, where
they were scattered on Plot 12, the place where his wife Phyllis’ ashes were
scattered.
