The deaths of T W and L G Moores
This
is a summary of the information gleaned from Aunt Helena's diary and David
Moore's memory.
T W and L G Moores moved to Lethbridge Alberta in approximately 1930-35, and for much of the remaining years of their lives lived with their son Cyril and his wife Flossie.
Last days of Lillian Garland Moores from
the diary of her daughter, Helena L. Moores.
On January 14, 1941, Lillian was admitted
to the St. Michael's hospital in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. She had not been
able to keep food in her stomach and so intravenous feeding was resorted to.
During the next few weeks, she also had several blood transfusions.
She continued to grow weaker and by
mid-April the Doctor consented for her to return home. The prognosis was not
good, but she expressed the desire
to die at home. She enjoyed it whenever the
family sang hymns for her. On June 16th her husband, Walter, and family
(Helena, Cyril and Flossie) sang for her. Her response was "How nice to be
sung into Heaven."
She passed away about 6:30 a.m. on June 16,
1941 - Helena's birthday. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge,
Alberta, on June 18th - her own birthday.
Last days of Thomas Walter Moores from
the diary of his daughter, Helena L. Moores, and recollections of his grandson,
David.
On October 27, 1943, Helena found her
father lying down when she returned from morning Church Service. She got his
supper early and had tea with him before going out to the evening Service, not
knowing that he had apparently had a heart attack.
When he realized that he was having the
attack, he requested that Flossie come to his bedside and read to him "out
of the Book of the Psalms, not where the Psalmist was wreaking out vengeance on
his enemies, but rather from the Songs of Degrees where the people were going
up to the Temple to worship." Of course, Flossie was glad to do so.
Later, when he was having trouble
breathing, Helena asked if he would like to have the Doctor come. His only reply
was "What could he do?" As he continued to worsen through the night,
Cyril did call Dr. Haig. When the
Doctor arrived and hurried upstairs to the bedroom where Walter was lying, he
was greeted with, "Well, Doctor, I'm having a heart attack!" in a
loud, booming voice. The Doctor hurried downstairs to prepare some medication
for him but, when he arrived back upstairs, Walter was gone.
He passed away, conscious to the last, in
the early hours of October 28, 1943. It was the 59th anniversary of the day he
was married, and he was aware of the date. He was buried beside his wife in
Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge, Alberta, on October 30th.
